I - Initial Training

Maria’s childhood and adolescent years have been marked by a series of long-term stays in several foreign countries. She has mainly followed ballet classes throughout her school years at the conservatoire in Rabat, Vienna and Stockholm. In 1994, having become a student in Bordeaux, her interests turn to modern dance. She follows classes given by Alain Gonotey for a period of three years. She starts contemporary dancing whilst participating in choreographic “ateliers” and courses (Martine Huguet and Florence Deubel). She goes on to join the company “Entresols” (Florence Peyramond) for the staging of “Hermione”. In 1995, she finishes her academic training, obtaining the gold medal followed by the medal of honour in 1996 at the Bordeaux Conservatoire. It is also in 1996 that she finishes her university studies, obtaining a “D.E.A.” in communication, and the performing arts at Bordeaux university III . She then moves to Paris in order to continue her work on contemporary dance. In 1997, she goes on to win the second prize in the competition for contemporary dance, organized by The Dance Federation. During the following 4 years, she studies under several choreographs and teachers (Sophie Lessard, Serge Ricci, Jean Gaudin, Jacques Patarozzi, Jackie Taffanel, Isabelle Dubouloz).

II - Argentine Tango

In 1998, she discovers Argentine Tango in Paris. That same year she meets Fabian Hojman, with whom she begins training. Whilst working alongside Fabian, they make an important trip to Argentina, staying several months in Buenos Aires. At this stage; Argentine tango becomes one of her main activities. Since 1998, she appears in various television programs (le Cercle de Minuit, “Les danses du désir” by André Halimi), videos (Miss Tango), a series of advertisements and editions (the Aubade calendar, the book “Tangos”) She also takes part in shows (the Rose Ball in Monaco in 2000, the Lido and Tag Heuer ).

In 2001, she meets Jorge Rodriguez, with whom she continues her tango training. She is his dancing partner for the next 4 years, accompanied by the great Juan José Mosalini orchestra, the singer Sandra Rumolino, Cesar Stroscio’s Trio Esquina, the El Despues quintet, the Carrasco quartet. H, Gustavo Beytelmann. In 2004, they take part in a new version of Astor Piazzolla’s Opera Tango “Maria of Buenos Aires” in Avignon and Brussels.

III – Theatre

In 2000, whilst continuing to learn tango, she tackles the world of theatre, taking part as a dancer in Oscar Panizza’s creation “Le Concil d’Amour” , produced by Serge Sandor at the Tempest theatre. Following this experience, she begins training as an actress with Acteurs Associés (Actor Studio). She takes lessons regularly with Philippe Kartel and Serge Djen in 2000/2001, as well as following a professional training course with Andreas Voutsinas in 2001. In 2002, she continues her theatre training with Vincent Rouche and Anne Cornu, taking part in an intensive course for clowns (“le Clown : Défi d’acteur, défi d’auteur”). In this course she learns the methods of classical chorus, improvisation and the Feldenkrais technique.

IV - The crossing of paths

Between 1995 and 2000, motivated by the desire to unite all these different artistic experiences, she takes part in the “Poetic Events” created and directed by Mourka Glogowski, combining dance and street acting. She also dances in the duo created for an actor (Jean Marc Layer) and a dancer in “Ma Langue”, created and directed by Loeiza Jacq for the Trass company. The different aspects of Maria’s artistic personnality are revealed even more specifically in 2002 during the creation “Fleur de Cactus” (Catherine Berbessou), produced at the Théâtre les Gémeaux in Sceaux, and also during the tour that ensues at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, at the Marseille festival and at the Maison de la Danse in Lyon. In 2004, her participation in the re-creation of the tango opera “Tango Mon Amour” by Jorge Zulueta (directed by Jacobo Romano / choreographed by Sandra Messina) at the Théâtre du Passage, in Neuchâtel, finally confirms her taste for a mixing of styles: tango, modern dance and acting. It is in the same spirit, that she dances at several concerts for the Gotan Project in 2003/2004 (in London, Poland and Brusssels) accompanied on stage by Yannick Juarez.

V - Teaching

In 1998, whilst continuing her performing career, she develops her taste for teaching argentine tango in assisting several teachers: Fabian Hojman, Imed Chemam and Mazen Kiwan, and occasionally Jorge Rodriguez. Since 2003, she continues to train under Christophe Lambert and Judith Elbaz. In 2004, using her wealth of experiences and encounters, she asserts her own point of view as a teacher. In 2005, she creates the association “Les Sens du Bal” to give more structure to her teaching activity. Currently, she organizes and gives lessons and courses in Paris and the provinces.
